IT Operations and Development should work together as a single unit. Rather than the traditional approach of development teams “tossing code over the fence” to the operations team for the ops team to deploy, we see the future as a place where developers are responsible for every part the stack including the deployment and management of production.

With the modern tools that exist and the movement towards “Everything-as-Code” and the cloud, we think it is managable for teams to move towards this kind of developer oriented setup. With this developer oriented shift, we aren’t leaving IT Operations in the dust, but changing the way it looks. The last part of youtube video on Immutable Infrastructure does a better job of explaining the changing future of IT Operations.

We understand there are challenges to implementing a full stack development team in many traditional organizations, but we plan to write about some of what we do on a technical level and some of the processes we have in place.
